New Witcher III Patch is Already in the Works to Fix Graphics Downgrades

Earlier this week, CD Projekt Red released patch 1.61 for The Witcher III. While the patch implemented a host of graphical and system upgrades for newer consoles, including HDR support, gamers on the PS4 Pro quickly spotted a problem. The patch also significantly degraded the draw distances for foliage and shadows in 4K.

Evidently, CD Projekt Red were quickly made aware of the problem by fans. The company has already confirmed that a new patch is in the works. This patch will be specifically for the PS4 Pro version of the game. Similarly, it likely aims solely to fix this issue with its 4K mode.

The Witcher III Patch released earlier this month was, on the whole, positive. The patch added HDR support, made slight improvements to fps, and added support for 1080p in the game’s menu. Overall, it brought the game’s visuals to the same standard as the Xbox One X version of the title. It’s presently unknown what exactly is causing PS4 Pro users to experience this harsh reduction in draw distances when playing with 4K graphics.

Marcin Momot, CD Projekt Red’s community lead, made the announcement on Twitter. In fewer words, he stated that the studio had become aware of the issue and were taking steps to address it.

Fortunately, the issue appears to be relatively minor. While Patch 1.61 released widely, only PS4 Pro users have reportedly encountered the problem. Hopefully, the limited scale of the bug means that it will be relatively easy to fix. That CD Projekt Red responded so quickly to fix an issue with a game that released all the way back in 2015 is certainly encouraging.

The studio may well have a lot in development at present. Indeed, rumors abound that Cyberpunk 2077 will feature at E3 this year. Meanwhile, the company’s co-founder recently announced a huge 6-month overhaul for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. While the company seems to have no plans for another feature Witcher game, they still seem to appreciate The Witcher III’s dedicated fan-base.
