Wolfenstein 3 has been on our minds since we finished the second game, whether that be on Nintendo Switch, PS4 or any other console. We just want to know whether, after the gun-blasting events of the second, seeing BJ Blazkowicz again. Well, that answer may just have been answered, thanks to a GameCentral interview with Bethesda’s Vice President of PR, Pete Hines.
The interview mostly focused around single-player, as Bethesda has had more than a few concerns thrown their way thanks to always online, multiplayer game Fallout 76. But according to Hines, those concerns are completely unwarranted, which must be a relief for fans to hear as Hines also confirmed the existence of Wolfenstein 3.
This answer came to be after GameCentral asked Hines whether he could guarantee that a new adventure, Wolfenstein 3 to be exact, would be happening sometime in the future as Wolfenstein 2 struggled to do as well as its predecessor.
Nonetheless, Hines had this to say, “yeah, sure. Absolutely we’re making a Wolfenstein III. They said on stage that they’re taking a break from the larger story to do this thing. But we all have to see how that ends.”
Wolfenstein: Young Blood, a tale about BJ’s two twin daughters as they fight their way through 1980’s Nazi Paris, may be what Hines was referring to when speaking about the ‘larger’ story of Wolfenstein. Unlike Wolfenstein 3, Wolfenstein: Young Blood has been given a release date as sometime next year. So, at least we’ll have that to satisfy us as we wait for the next big thing for Wolfenstein.
One thing that that Hines also mentioned in his interview with GameCentral is that Wolfenstein and Prey do not have the attributes that would make them part of “games as a service”, which depending on who you talk to, may seem like a blessing rather than a curse.
