Wargaming has announced a new Special Event for World of Tanks to mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Kursk. Here’s everything you need to know about this event.
The Battle of Kursk was a World War II engagement between German and Soviet forces on the Eastern Front near Kursk, located south-west of Moscow. It was actually the largest tank battle in history. The battle took place during July and August 1943 and lasted for fifty whole days. In the battle they were involved around two million people. It is estimated that over seven thousand tanks were destroyed during the Battle of Kursk.
This battle was the final strategic offensive that the Germans were able to launch on the Eastern Front. Adolf Hitler was forced to cancel the offensive at Kursk after only a week to divert forces to Italy. This resulted in a reduction of German strength on the Eastern Front. It was the first time in the World War II that a German strategic offensive was halted before it could break through enemy defences. The Red Army’s counter-offensives following the German attack at Kursk were their first successful strategic summer offensives of the war.
Wargaming, in order to commemorate this historic milestone, they announced a special set of Combat Missions coming soon in World of Tanks. The Battle of Kursk marks its 75th anniversary this year and Wargaming is giving you the chance to take on some missions related to it.
It is announced that the event will start on July 5 and will end on August 24, which length is almost identical to the one of the real Battle of Kursk in 1943. As always, they have tried to make those missions engaging and rewarding. Nevertheless, Wargaming noted that in order to complete some of them you might need a certain set of vehicles. Therefore be prepared and join the World of Tanks’ Special Event starting on July 5.
