Fans of the WWE 2K games finally got their first look at the new 2K20 trailer over the past several days. After the trailer originally leaked online, 2K released it themselves on Monday, August 5. With that, they unveiled the cover stars Becky Lynch and Roman Reigns, along with details on the three different editions of the game. In addition, a comprehensive WWE 2K20 gameplay video arrived online featuring New Day’s Xavier Woods. He broke down a lot of what is coming to the new game in terms of features and modes. Here’s everything we’ve seen so far from today’s reveal.
WWE 2K20 Gameplay video: Mixed Match Challenge, new Career Mode option
The new WWE 2K20 gameplay video arrived with avid superstar gamer Xavier Woods spilling many of the first details. He mentioned what’s new and what’s old in terms of the upcoming game. In terms of the features, there’s the return of Gauntlet 2K Towers, MyCareer Mode, Showcase, MyUniverse Mode. Much of the roster will probably look similar to recent years, with some additions and subtractions.
WWE 2K20 will have the introduction of the Mixed Match Challenge match. These are matches involving tag teams consisting of men’s and women’s superstars in a tournament. MyCareer Mode will include the new option to create a Female superstar. Last year only involved playing through this mode with a Male superstar. It appears this year includes a story involving a male and female pair of new superstars that go through a story together.
Woods touched upon this while also teasing some of what might be part of the story. Here’s a look at a created male and female superstar together with Papa Shango standing behind them.
A complaint about 2K19 was the lack of ability to have a female superstar go through Career Mode. So this is a welcome addition to the 2K game and seems to tie in nicely with the brand new Showcase mode story, along with the Mixed Match Challenge matches.
2K20’s Showcase Mode features Four Horsewomen Story
This year’s Showcase mode puts the spotlight on the “Women’s Revolution” this year. Featured in the WWE 2K20 gameplay video are Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, Bayley, and Sasha Banks. That’s the WWE’s “Four Horsewomen,” and the game’s Showcase mode lets gamers play through their stories, matches, and see real-life footage or video clips from the stars. It seems to explain why Sasha Banks was with WWE in New York City during her hiatus from the ring over the past several months.
Many fans were predicting this would be a part of the game, and rightfully it is. 2K20 will celebrate a lot of those first-ever accomplishments in the history of the Women’s Revolution such as the epic NXT matches up to Becky headlining WrestleMania 35 and winning both women’s titles there.
2K Originals content, Hulk Hogan & Chyna also part of roster
Woods also mentioned the addition of the new WWE 2K Originals content. What this means is that gamers are going to get new content through the year available in the game. Woods said that this would take gamers’ imaginations to new places, so it’s quite possible that these could be releases tied in with major holidays, or other promotions that WWE is working with.
It could also be similar to how other games operate, such as NBA 2K or Madden, where they unveil missions, challenges, and new items along the way. Whether or not these will require any sort of purchase in WWE 2K20 remains to be seen. Here’s a look at the concept art shown off during the 2K20 gameplay trailer after Woods talked about the 2K Originals.
One of the other big pieces of news that came with the game is the inclusion of WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan and the late Chyna. These are big steps for the playable roster, and many fans believe it means Chyna could see become inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame next year, posthumously.
We’ve yet to see gameplay footage of Chyna or Hulkster, but the roster reveal is probably at least several weeks away so they’ll be promoted soon enough. They are being promoted as part of the bonus content for the Deluxe and Collector’s Editions of the game along with special versions of The Rock and Mankind for “Rock N’ Sock Connection.”
The WWE 2K20 pre-orders are now available for the Standard, Deluxe, and Collector’s Versions. The game officially arrives on October 22, 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PCs.
