WWE 2K20 GM Mode: Developers Talk Yuke’s Split, Popular Mode’s Absence in New Interview

A revealing new interview with WWE 2K20 developers arrived on Wednesday ahead of the new game’s release this month. Among the topics on the list of questions that gamers want to know about is the return of GM mode, the focus of the new game, and why there’s been a general lack of information. They also spoke about the game’s Creation Suite, the new MyCareer mode, and more. Here are some of the latest tidbits they revealed in a new YouTube interview.

WWE 2K20 Developers discuss GM mode absence, split with Yuke’s

YouTuber Chris Denker who runs the channel DenkOps posted an interview he did with several of the WWE 2K20 developers on Wednesday. Right off the bat, he grilled them about the lack of general information leading up to this year’s game release. They replied by basically saying they’ve been focused on delivering the best possible game they can.

In addition, a split from Yuke’s has meant they needed to bring more people on board and bring them up to speed on various aspects of the game. Yuke’s developed the WWE games since 2000’s WWF SmackDown! through last year’s 2K18. However, fans learned this past August that 2K Games was now working with the California-based studio Visual Concepts instead.

One of the other major topics that Chris broached with the developers was the fact that the community wants the return of GM mode. The bad news is that it won’t appear in WWE 2K20 as the developers mentioned they focused more on other new aspects. That includes having a female MyPlayer in WWE 2K’s MyCareer, something that hadn’t been a part of the mode.

Will GM Mode ever return to the game?

GM Mode, which is short for General Manager Mode, gave gamers control over Raw, SmackDown, and even the former ECW brands in the game. Gamers were able to play the role of GM with an in-game draft, superstar signings, and other aspects of managing the show. That even included trying to manage finances or contracts, and outdo the other brand with better matches.

The mode was first introduced in WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2006. WWE star Xavier Woods featured the game on his popular UpUpDownDown YouTube channel where he battled Tyler Breeze in constructing a roster.

However, the mode only lasted a few installments past the 2006 game. They discontinued GM Mode in the WWE SmackDown vs. RAW 2009 title. Ever since then, it’s been a feature the community has been begging to see make a return in a WWE 2K title.

The good news from the interview is the developers said GM mode is among future considerations for WWE 2K. As far as which installment that will be, that remains to be seen. However, gamers will be holding out hope again for next year’s edition. Meanwhile, WWE 2K20 seems like it will have new features and content never seen before that could help with forgetting the mode for another year.

The new WWE 2K20 video game arrives for Sony PlayStation 4, Microsoft’s Xbox One, and Windows PCs on October 22, 2019.
