While they aren’t quite what the community wants, WWE 2K20 Universe Mode is bringing some updates to the game when it arrives next month. On Thursday (Sept. 26), WWE 2K revealed new details and screenshots with regards to what gamers can expect. That includes updated cutscenes, thousands of new promo lines, and much more for the customization and enjoyment of the mode. However, it’s still not giving a large portion of the community what they may be looking for with the mode.
WWE 2K20 Universe mode details, screenshots revealed
Just a day ago, gamers saw a first look at the new blue color scheme for the menus in WWE 2K20 Online Lobbies. It’s a change from 2K19’s white and grey look and one that seems to have gamers appeased, so far. Now, there are more screenshots arriving for another popular mode in the game.
From 2K’s details, here is a look at a match as part of the new WWE 2K20 Universe mode. It shows off Braun Strowman taking on Seth Rollins with the Universal title on the line. It’s labeled a “Rivalry match.” However, it includes other options like “Announce Cash-In,” and a “Simulate.” It’s unknown if this is a standard TV show or pay-per-view match, but based on the info below, there are 12 matches. That could mean a major pay-per-view or Raw which spans three hours.
On their webpage, 2K20 also revealed the following with regards to Universe Mode:
- Major and minor show match limits have increased from 7 to 9.
- Pay-Per-View match limits have doubled from 7 to 14.
- The number of championship titles per major show has increased from 6 to 7.
- Simultaneous rivalries on major shows have increased from 3 to 4.
- Pay-Per-Views can be co-hosted by up to 3 major shows versus the previous 2.
- Players have more freedom to delete and add promos and matches.
- 50 of the most-used cutscenes have been reshot with female mocap actors to look more authentic when female Superstars are used.
Here’s a look at another Universe Mode screenshot featuring Kofi Kingston on SmackDown Live and a look at the Calendar along with other options.
Rivalry intensity, Cutscenes, Match settings
In another WWE 2K20 Universe mode screenshot, gamers can see another menu screen which shows rivalries between superstars. 2K mentioned in their new details about the mode:
New rivalry content includes options such as low-intensity enemies making peace after a single Pay-Per-View or low to mid-intensity allies slowly falling out over several weeks instead of a sudden turn.
What this means, is a better-paced rivalry, similar to what fans might see unfold over weeks on television, or with the culmination of a PPV match.
In addition to that, 2K mentioned the following new details for Universe Mode:
- 25 new cutscenes have been added.
- 3,040 new promo lines are in the game.
- Custom Matches can now be included in Match Tables, along with new Mixed Tag Matches.
- New Championship Match setting in Match Tables can be used to make certain matches a title match.
- Main Event matches in Match Tables have been tweaked so that those match types are more likely to occur on the show (Example: Royal Rumble match at the Royal Rumble Pay-Per-View).
- The overall menu flow has been streamlined to make it more accessible to those new to Universe Mode. All deeper options are still available for experienced players.
Closing thoughts on Universe Mode details
It wasn’t quite a huge surprise announcement with regards to any changes or upgrades. Overall, the addition of all these new improvements and updates should make WWE 2K20 Universe Mode an enjoyable and truer-to-the-product type of experience for fans using the mode. Being able to watch your own shows unfold with unique matches, champions, and rivalries is always fun.
Most likely, many gamers are still upset with the lack of GM mode or a Draft in 2K20. An overhaul could work some wonders, but it may take a while for WWE 2K to understand it’s what the community wants. Once they achieve that, it could bring a lot more gamers around to buying the game and enjoying the mode.
