WWE 2K22 Trailer With Release Date Tease Arrives at SummerSlam 2021

One of WWE’s biggest pay-per-view events of the year is SummerSlam, and this year’s event delivered something many fans were waiting for. Not only were there some high-flying moves and action-packed matches, but a big 2K game reveal. A new WWE 2K22 trailer with a release date tease has now arrived and gives fans a look at the upcoming pro wrestling game.

SummerSlam 2021 includes WWE 2K22 trailer

This year’s SummerSlam 2021 event took place Saturday, August 21, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Some of the big matches included Sasha Banks vs. Bianca Belair, John Cena vs. Roman Reigns, and Goldberg vs. Bobby Lashley. During the event’s stream on Peacock and just after Damian Priest defeated Sheamus for the WWE United States Championship, a trailer arrived for the new video game.

The new WWE 2K22 trailer (below) shows off some of the in-ring action that’s on the way. Among the featured superstars are Roman Reigns, Rey Mysterio, Ricochet, Kane, Bayley, and Drew McIntyre.

Viewers witness Kane’s chokeslam, Goldberg’s Spear, and Lashley performing a powerful slam.

Along with big moves inside the ring, a few entrance scenes are also presented. The trailer ends with Drew McIntyre’s entrance where he sticks his sword into a rock at the top of the stage.

Based on WWE 2K’s tweet, the game will feature “new controls, stunning graphics, and a redesigned engine.”

We previously saw a 2K22 teaser trailer debut at WrestleMania 37. It featured WWE superstars Rey Mysterio and Cesaro with entrance footage and in-ring action. This one above gave much more, but there’s probably a more official trailer on the way by January 2022.

WWE 2K22 release date coming next year?

One thing that may disappoint fans expecting a game this year is that the WWE 2K22 release date seems to be coming in March 2022. That’s much later than WWE 2K games typically arrive, but this one’s also been a transition of sorts.

The last game WWE 2K fans saw was WWE 2K20 which came out in October 2019. That game was met with many negative reviews based on the glitches and issues that plagued the game at release.

Due to that backlash, they didn’t release a WWE 2K21 game, and 2K went back to the drawing board. A WWE 2K Battlegrounds game was released. It featured more of an arcade fighter-type game, rather than the pro wrestling sim some fans wanted.

We previously had WWE 2K22 release date predictions set for this year, based on when the previous 2K games came out. However, it seems they’re putting more work into getting this one right, hopefully.

2K released game screenshots before SummerSlam 2021

Just a few days ahead of WWE’s SummerSlam event, WWE 2K22 Twitter teased fans with the upcoming reveal. 2K showed off a few game screenshots of The Rated-R Superstar Edge. He was in action during the pay-per-view against former WWE 2K cover star Seth Rollins.

The screenshots below mainly show Edge making his entrance for a match as he poses on the ramp with pyrotechnics shooting off behind him.

Beyond the teaser trailer, release date timeframe, and screenshots above, not much else has been given for new info. However, they did mention in their tweet that more details will be coming in January 2022. That may be when the official trailer, cover, release date, and pre-order details arrive.

That’s a long wait for WWE video game fans, but hopefully, it will be well worth the wait.
