As of Monday night, professional wrestling fans learned of one of the headline matchups for the next pay-per-view. At WWE Money in the Bank 2019, Seth Rollins will defend the Universal Championship against new Raw roster member AJ Styles. It’s not only an intriguing matchup based on their wrestling resumes, but also due to their status as the last two WWE 2K cover athletes.
2K stars Styles vs. Rollins at WWE Money in the Bank
“The Phenomenal” AJ Styles is the official WWE 2K19 cover athlete and is also in the game’s special Million Dollar Challenge. A Gold AJ Styles version appears in the Tower that gamers must defeat for a chance to take on Styles for a million dollars. That went down ahead of WrestleMania 35, where one skilled gamer defeated Styles in WWE 2K19 for the big money. However, Styles is more concerned with his upcoming match now.
Seth Rollins was the featured WWE 2K18 cover athlete. He’s seen quite a bit happen in his career since then. He had a tag title run with Dean Ambrose and an Intercontinental Championship reign. Rollins has maintained his status as one of the top superstars in WWE today. He’s remained on the Raw roster and risen up the ladder.
At the recent WrestleMania 35 in New York, he defeated Brock Lesnar to capture the WWE Universal Championship. He’s among WWE’s Grand Slam Champions, and also popular for his involvement as a member of The Shield.
Now the last two WWE 2K cover athletes are set to collide at the WWE Money in the Bank 2019 pay-per-view. In the video game, Styles arrived with a 91 rating, which was up one point from his 2K18 rating. Rollins actually slid, though, which is interesting. He was a 92 as the 2K18 cover athlete and dropped four points to become an 88. Ouch. He’s gone on to win the 2019 Royal Rumble and become Universal Champion since.
The WWE 2K19 ratings are unlikely to matter as much when they officially meet in the ring, though. There aren’t any betting odds available yet, but most fans expect Rollins to extend his title run with a victory over Styles. The WWE Money in the Bank 2019 pay-per-view arrives on May 19 from Hartford, Connecticut.
