Microsoft continues surprising the gaming community with their announcements. Now, they are planning on taking the Xbox LIVE service to Android and iOS devices. This is done thanks to the Game Stack ecosystem. This tool will allow players to access development tools that can be used for game development on the aforementioned devices.
Microsoft Uses Game Stack to Bring Xbox LIVE to iOS and Android
Microsoft created the Game Stack in order to bring together their tools and services to empower game developers. “This is the start of a new journey, and today we are only taking the first steps. We believe Microsoft is uniquely suited to deliver on that commitment. Our company has a long legacy in games – and in building developer-focused platforms.” Said Microsoft in a blog post.
For starters, the Game Stack is a rather convenient tool that brings all of Microsoft’s development tools together. Additionally, the goal is to allow developers to easily discover the tools they need to create their games. Surprisingly, one of the featured kits is Xbox LIVE.
Now that Xbox LIVE is part of the Game Stack ecosystem; Android and iOS developers can include party systems, messaging, Xbox achievements, and cloud saves in mobile games. Obviously, this is a huge development for mobile gaming as it will include a major console/PC feature.
With services like Azure, PlayFab, and Project xCloud; Microsoft has a goal on making gaming reach every platform imaginable. Of course, there’s still a long way to go before Microsoft is able to fully achieve this dream. However, they certainly seem to be taking the right steps in doing so.
