Sekiro’s Great Serpent encounter can be downright terrifying, especially if you’re not a big fan of snakes to begin with. The penalty for failing the tense stealth encounter is having to watch a massive snake charge you like a bull. However, PC modder Katalash has found a way to make the Great Serpent encounter a little less nerve-wracking. Just replace the giant snake with an imposing Thomas the Tank Engine.
Sekiro Thomas the Snake Engine Mod

Katalash’s Thomas the Snake Engine mod does exactly what its title infers. The Great Serpent’s in-game model is replace with a large Thomas the Tank Engine during all scripted encounters. Thomas the Snake Engine is still quite deadly and imposing, but not nearly as much as the default serpent. Just make sure you grab and install Sekiro’s mod engine (https://www.nexusmods.com/sekiro/mods/6) before downloading the Thomas the Snake Engine mod.
Sadly, the mod doesn’t include an accompanying Thomas the Tank Engine musical theme. It does, however, replace the great serpent’s hissing audio effects with distinct train whistles. The below video from Katalash proves that these train whistles can become quite grating, though, so consider yourself warned.
Thomas the Tank Engine has become a surprisingly prolific presence in the PC games modding community. Previously, modders added the iconic train engine to games like Monster Hunter: World and Fallout 4. More recently, Thomas the Tank Engine even appeared in Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 remake. That mod works by swapping out the game’s Mr. X antagonist with a more sinister take on old Thomas.
From a certain perspective, replacing intimidating video game monsters with Thomas the Tank Engine makes a whole lot of sense. Some players can use the mod for simple laughs, others as a way to tone down the scares. No matter how they’re used, chances are this isn’t the last we’ll see of Thomas the Tank Engine-inspired game mods.
Again, just make sure you install Sekiro’s Nexus Mods mod engine first, especially if you want to use other mods.
