You Can Soon Change Your Name on PSN: Find Out How

Wouldn’t it be superb if there were a way to do a PSN name change? Soon, it is going to happen! Sony has just announced the PSN Online ID Change feature beta, confirming recent rumors. When this feature launches (which according to Sony will be “soon”), those who belong to the PlayStation Preview Program will be able to give it a whirl.

There is still no official start date for the beta, but there is an end date. Well, the date is not specific, but we know that the beta is meant to wrap up sometime in November. Sony believes that the final version of the feature will be ready to launch for all users by “early 2019.”

How the PSN Name Change Works

If you will be participating in the beta, you will be able to change your name an unlimited number of times during the testing phase. To do this, just head to your profile page or to your Settings. You can do it once for free, but after that, you will have to pay $9.99 per change (discounted for PS Plus members to $4.99). Want your old name back? That is free too.

It is up to you if you just want the new name to be displayed on your profile, or if you want your old name to be displayed as well. This is a decision you only get to make once, so choose wisely.

There is one more important thing to know. The PSN name change feature is intended for games which were published after April 1, 2018. Games published before that date may not include full support. The same goes for games you are playing on PS3 or Vita. If you play a lot of old games, you may want to hold off, as glitches are possible.

PS4 Pro

If you mostly enjoy relatively new titles on your PS4 though, you should be good to go. So give it a try, and enjoy your new PSN name!
