When Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion launches in September, it will include several new systems that encourage long-term investment, from the new Collections tab to the return of daily heroic story missions. However, before they can fully utilize such systems, players will have to first boost their Guardian up to the expansion’s new power caps, and if a recent info dump on Reddit is to be believed, that might take a little while.
According to the info dump, which is a compilation of new information revealed through Game Informer’s August cover story for the Forsaken expansion, players who enjoy the journey of reaching each new expansion’s level/power cap won’t be disappointed. We already knew that the Power Level cap would get a significant bump, rising from the current cap of 385 to 600, but now we know that the standard Guardian level cap will get a similarly sizable increase, rising from the current cap of level 30 all the way to level 50. This means that, assuming you’ve reached Destiny 2’s current level/power cap, you’ll have to first work through *20* additional Guardian levels before you begin the climb to 600 Power.
It seems safe to assume that players will make a decent amount of progress towards level 50 while playing the Forsaken expansion’s story campaign, and thanks to infusion they might even be able to bump up their Power Level a bit while they’re at it. But still, if you ever thought that Destiny 2 didn’t provide enough in the way of long-term investments, it sounds like you’ll definitely want to play the Forsaken expansion. Plus, that’s assuming you only have one character. For Destiny 2 players who also like to venture around with a couple alt characters, their first few weeks (maybe even months) with the Forsaken expansion might be spent getting all their characters up to the new level/power caps.
We’ll find out just how long it takes to reach those new caps when Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion launches on September 4.
