Ghost Recon Wildlands’ recently announced Special Operation 3 update is now live, and we now know the update’s crossover theme. Much like previous Special Operation updates, Special Operation 3 crosses over with an existing Ubisoft property. In this case, the existing property also happens to be an existing Ghost Recon property: Ghost Recon Future Soldier.
Ghost Recon Wildlands Special Operation 3 Theme
While previous operations crossed over with distinctly separate properties like Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six, Special Operation 3 is different. Fans have long requested a crossover with one of Ghost Recon’s more popular offshoots, the sci-fi-esque Future Soldier series. Now, with Special Operation 3, Ubisoft is finally merging the worlds of Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Future Soldier.
A new PvE mission called Operation Silent Spade headlines Special Operation 3. The mission has players teaming up with familiar Future Soldier faces Scott Mitchell and John Kozak. Playing either solo or in co-op, players work alongside Mitchell and Kozak to thwart a potential nuclear nuclear plot for good.
Players who successfully complete the Operation Silent Spade mission unlock the Optical Camo backpack. When equipped, the backpack shrouds the player in a cloaking field, significantly boosting their stealth capabilities.
Ghost War Features
Over in Wildlands’ PvP Ghost Mode, Special Operation 3 adds in two new character classes and two new maps. The new maps are Lithium Mine (a desert-themed mining facility) and Outskirts (a remote outpost surrounded by a dense forest). As for the new classes, they are as follows:
- Vanguard: A new Assault class equipped with a unique Sensor Grenade gadget. Rather than exploding, Sensor Grenades paint their area of impact with a digital scan. Enemies tagged in the scan’s radius are highlighted for the Vanguard and their allies. Highlighted enemies are visible through solid objects such as walls.
- Sharpshooter: A new Marksman class who sports a unique Long Range Specialist ability. Long Range Specialist slowly charges up while the Sharpshooter is aiming their weapon. At full charge, the Sharpshooter’s next shot completely negates the effects of sway and bullet drop.
A full run-through of all Special Operation 3 features can be found here. Ubisoft is also deploying improvements for its other tactical shooter title Rainbow Six Siege. Just yesterday the studio altered Siege’s controversial anti-toxicity system so that it no longer instantly auto-bans players.
