What to watch for on the 2K ratings reveal

Unlike the Madden NFL games from EA Sports, there was no 99 Club featuring hoops players in NBA 2K19. As of this report, 2KRatings.com indicates that the highest rating any players had was a 96 overall. That went to the Houston Rockets’ James Harden, Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James.

Anthony Davis had a 94 overall, which was just a point below Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and Kawhi Leonard. One has to wonder if Kawhi’s rise to superstardom and capturing another NBA title with a new team will propel his number higher for NBA 2K20 player ratings. It’s also going to be see which team rates higher, the star-powered Clippers or new-look Lakers?

NBA trades and free agency shook things up this past summer beyond Anthony Davis’ move. Fans saw many big stars sign with big teams or get traded. That included Paul George and Kawhi to the LA Clippers, Kemba Walker to the Boston Celtics, and Jimmy Butler to the Miami Heat. Just last night, Russell Westbrook was traded by the Thunder to the Rockets with Chris Paul coming to OKC in the deal.

Plenty of fans will want to see the numbers assigned to those superstars but there’s also this year’s rookie ratings. There’s a lot of hype surrounding No. 1 draft pick Zion Williamson, with many speculating he could have one of the highest debut ratings ever for a rookie. Will he surpass LeBron James, though?

His fellow draft class members, No. 2 pick Ja Morant and No. 3 pick RJ Barrett, will see how their NBA 2K20 ratings compare to last year’s rookies. At the very least, they’ll know how they’re viewed in the video game, and can use it to prove otherwise on the real court.
