New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is rumored to be coming to Nintendo Switch in the future. Rumors suggest that not only is the game currently in development for the Switch but that it will be arriving as early as this year. This deluxe game is a port of the original Wii U title New Super Mario Bros. U that first released on November 18, 2012, and went onto become the third highest-selling Wii U game.
With other titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Captain Toad’s Treasure Tracker making the hop from Wii U to Switch, it’s no surprise that New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe could also be on its way. The rumors of this originate from Comicbook.com. The site has spent a significant portion of this year following up on tips and rumors from “sources connected to Nintendo of Europe” that have indicated this is really happening.
According to the rumors, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe will be a complete version of the Wii U title, bundling together the New Super Mario Bros. U game and its standalone expansion New Super Luigi U that released in 2013 as part of the Year of Luigi. Some of the sources have suggested that it will include new content of some sort.
Hopefully, the new content would be something like Super Mario Odyssey-inspired 2D levels. The name New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe has also been hinted at by multiple sources, indicating this could be either a placeholder title or the final name.
The name would not only be a reference to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe but pay homage to Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, an updated version of the original Super Mario Bros. for GameBoy Color that included its sequel. For more info on whether or not these rumors are true, keep it locked right here at VGR.
