Here are more details about the NHL 22 TOTY nominees and the promotion that’s on the way.
30 NHL 22 Team of the Year nominees revealed
The NHL 22 Team of the Year will be selected from a field of 30 nominees. As of this report, there are 15 forwards, 10 defensemen, and five goalies amongst those nominated. Leading the way for the forwards are the league’s points leaders from the Edmonton Oilers, Leon Draisatl and Connor McDavid.
Both of the Oilers stars have recorded 49 points so far this season. Draisatl leads all players with 23 goals and is third in assists with 26. McDavid has 17 goals and leads the league with his 32 assists. Last year’s cover star, Alex Ovechkin sits in third overall for the points leaderboard with his 47 points.
Also amongst nominees for forwards is this year’s returning cover star, Auston Matthews, of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Matthews currently has 20 goals for the season and 13 assists. His Maple Leafs are second to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Atlanta division.
There are just five goalies amongst nominees, and only one will receive TOTY honors. They include Tampa Bay’s Andrei Vasilevskiy who leads the league with 17 wins. He’s recorded a goals allowed per game average of 2.14 and is fourth in saves this season with 671. Connor Hellebuyck is also nominated. The Winnipeg Jets’ goaltender is third in saves this season with 683.
Calgary’s goalie Jacob Markstrom is another notable nominee. The Flames goaltender is currently third in the league with a 1.94 goals against per game average.
What is TOTY in Hockey Ultimate Team?
Six players will be named to the NHL 22 Team of the Year squad. That’s one goalie, two defensemen, and three players up front on offense. The players named to NHL 22 TOTY will each receive a “special dynamic HUT item” which will match their highest rating all year.
These items will be available in HUT packs, or through the completion of special exchange sets. They’ll become available from December 31st through January 7th, after the TOTY players have been revealed.
In addition to that, each of the players named to the team will receive real-life rewards in honor of the achievement. Per EA’s details, they’ll receive “limited-edition, one-of-a-kind pieces of equipment” to recognize their place on the Team of the Year.
For the NHL 21 Team of the Year, players received the beautiful gold skates as shown below:
The NHL 21 TOTY featured Leon Draisatl (Oilers), David Pastrnak (Bruins), Artemi Panarin (Rangers), Victor Hedman (Lightning), Cale Makar (Avalanche), and Andrei Vasilevski (Lightning) in goal. Will we see a repeat of this squad for NHL 22?
