The annual edition of EA’s NHL Team of the Year has officially been revealed! Several players followed up their selections last year as NHL 22 Team of the Year winners for 2021. The Tampa Bay Lightning’s star defenseman Victor Hedman and goalkeeper Vasilevskiy are back again. Joining them are four other deserving hockey stars including Brad Marchand and Adam Fox, who both reacted to the news.
EA reveals NHL 22 Team of the Year winners
Just a few days ago, we looked at the 30 nominees for Team of the Year. Now, as the year closes out, EA is honoring six of the best players in hockey who were named as their NHL 22 TOTY winners.
The offense includes former cover star Conor McDavid at the center spot. McDavid, a multiple-time All-Star with the Edmonton Oilers, was previously the NHL 18 game cover star.
The Oilers star is the only cover star to receive the TOTY honor this year. Cover star Auston Matthews, and former cover star Alex Ovechkin, were amongst the nominees.
He’s flanked by the Bruins’ Marchand and Colorado Avalanche RW, Mikko Rantanen. Tampa Bay’s Victor Hedman and the Rangers’ Adam Fox head up the defense, while Vasilevskiy minds the net for NHL 22 TOTY.
With the reveal of the above players, fans have debated whether everyone there deserved the spots, or other NHL stars did. Some have tried to argue for Ovechkin, while others have mentioned Cale Makar may have been a good choice over Hedman.
In a funny side note, the original reveal of the TOTY players showed Vasilevskiy as a left-wing, which several fans have tweeted about:
Vasilevskiy was in the NHL 21 Team of the Year lineup along with Hedman, Leon Draisaitl, David Pastrnak, Artemin Panarin, Hedman, and Cale Makar.
Brad Marchand, Adam Fox react to Team of the Year
Following the reveal of the new Team of the Year, NHL 22 TOTY winners Brad Marchand and Adam Fox shared images along with their reactions. Each of the team of the Year players received a special gift honoring their selection to the team.
Marchand tweeted that he “found a little something extra” under his tree this year, courtesy of EA Sports NHL. The Bruins star added he’s “excited to be part” of the TOTY.
Adam Fox also tweeted a photo of himself with the special NHL 22 TOTY skates, indicating it was an honor for EA to choose him for the squad.
With the TOTY winners revealed, each of the six players now has a dynamic player card available in Hockey Ultimate Team (HUT) mode. These are available through HUT packs or by completing specific exchange sets in HUT.
The new NHL 22 TOTY player cards went live in HUT as of 2 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time (5 p.m. Eastern Time) on Friday, December 31. They’ll no longer be available as of January 7, 2022, at 2 p.m. PDT (5 p.m. ET). See more details about the TOTY promotion here.
In addition, the World of Chel received new Team of the Year items with TOTY-themed player skates and goalie masks.
