This past weekend played host to the 2018 iteration of QuakeCon, Bethesda’s annual mini-convention during which the company often shares new information regarding its upcoming game releases. While Doom Eternal and Fallout 76 were undoubtedly the frontrunners for this year’s QuakeCon, Rage 2 got a little love as well in the form of a new extended gameplay video which you can watch below.
The seven-and-a-half minute video touches on several aspects of Rage 2’s world, including the different environmental biomes that players will get to explore (such as jungle, swamp, and desert locations), the various enemy factions that will attempt to hamper the player’s efforts, and, of course, the awesome weaponry and character powers the player will be able to utilize. The on-foot mission involving the Eden station is something we already got a pretty good look at during Rage 2’s E3 unveiling, but before that the QuakeCon video shows off a brand new gameplay component: vehicle convoy assaults.
Each of the enemy factions will control their own roaming vehicle convoys which are made up of both smaller vehicles and larger behemoths that would look right at home in a Mad Max movie. The player can freely engage these convoys as part of Rage 2’s dynamic open world, but Bethesda warns that players should come well-prepared if they want to successfully bring the convoys down. Fortunately, the player in the video is more than adequately prepared, harrying the convoy with a variety of different vehicle-based weapons and abilities before reducing the behemoth vehicle to a pile of flaming scrap metal.
Rage 2 doesn’t yet have a set release date, but Bethesda promises the game will launch sometime in spring, 2019, so fans who want to bring their own personal brand of destruction to the wasteland won’t have long to wait.
