Earlier this year, Ubisoft attempted to experiment with the normally competitive nature of Rainbow Six Siege by introducing a limited-time PvE mode called Outbreak that pitted teams of players against a hostile AI-controlled alien threat. In practice, the mode wasn’t very fun, but Siege’s Reddit community still thinks that Ubisoft shouldn’t abandon the game’s PvE potential entirely.
The author of this recent Reddit thread mentioned specifically how Outbreak was a worthwhile effort since it had strong story concepts holding it together, and it was particularly fun seeing the game’s various operators interact with each other on a more personal level. Commenters in the thread were quick to start posting their own ideas for future co-op/PvE concepts that Ubisoft could try, and one commenter’s idea in particular seemed to resonate with other readers:
“5 man Outbreak horde mode on siege maps: Picture this, pitch black maps, and a dense fog outside that is hard to see through. Staying outside too long spawns a super fast brutal zombie that can dbno you mere seconds after hearing it charge, but he only lives in the fog, overtime and some rounds does the fog spread to other rooms forcing players to reposition and sometimes make a new door. All ops will be available. Personally also there will be way less exploders.”
Other ideas that were floated included a crossover PvE scenario that mixed in elements from Ghost Recon to compliment the recent Rainbow Six Siege crossover mission for Ghost Recon Wildlands. One commenter suggested that, at the very least, it would be nice to see more structured story scenarios like Article 5, the existing Terrorist Hunt mission that acts as a sort of capstone for Siege’s in-game training modules.
For the time being, Ubisoft is likely busy putting the finishing touches on Siege’s upcoming Operation Grim Sky update. However, if fan demand proves to be high enough, there’s certainly the chance that more PvE content could find its way into the game at some point.
