Capcom’s recently released Resident Evil 2 remake has been a resounding success to say the least. Old-school fans and newcomers alike have enjoyed returning to the iconic RPD Station setting and solving its many puzzles.
The remake’s success has naturally led some fans to wonder if Capcom is now considering more Resident Evil remakes. Specifically, fans want to see Capcom follow the logical conclusion of giving Resident Evil 3 the remake treatment. Capcom’s response? If the fan demand is there, then it will happen for sure.
Capcom Comments on Resident Evil 3 Remake
Resident evil 2 remake producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi recently spoke with the Japanese publication Game Watch about the remake’s success. Hirabayashi also wasn’t coy about what specifically inspired Capcom to do the remake in the first place. For the past 20 years fans have been requesting a remake of Resident Evil 2, so Capcom decided to oblige.
Another interesting fact which Hirabayashi noted is that Capcom sees no reason to stop with Resident Evil 2. If the fans speak up about how much they want to see a Resident Evil 3 remake, Capcom will listen. Hirabayashi encouraged fans to make their voices heard via social media and other platforms.
Of course, fans should be careful about what they wish for. If you thought RE2’s Mr. X was bad, Resident Evil 3 has this little old dude named Nemesis. If you’ve never played Resident Evil 3 yourself, Nemesis is basically Mr. X on steroids and wielding a rocket launcher. I can only imagine how much more terrifying Nemesis would be in a Resident Evil 3 remake.
While we wait for Resident Evil 3, there’s plenty to enjoy in the Resident Evil 2 remake. A new Ghost Survivors episodic mode is on the way, and it’s entirely free. There are also plenty of unlockables to discover in the base game, including infinite ammo weapon variants.
